A scenario to consider before our webinar

Ahead of our upcoming webinar, When Workplace Conflict Needs More Than HR: Understanding the Role of Mediation, we’d like to give you a scenario to think about.

Consider this:

An employee is sent to another county for a three-day work assignment. On the second evening, after completing the day's work, she leaves her hotel to get dinner. On her way back, she slips and injures her ankle.

She receives medical treatment and is unable to work for several days. She believes the organisation should cover her medical expenses because she was away from home on a work assignment.

The organisation disagrees. Their position is that she had finished work for the day, was engaged in a personal activity, and the organisation should not be responsible for what happened during her personal time.

Who is right?

Or perhaps the more useful question is:

What would a fair way forward look like?

We’ll explore this scenario together during the webinar and use it to look at what mediation can offer when a workplace conflict doesn't have an obvious winner or loser.

There is no need to prepare an answer. Just think on it before we meet.
